The Changing of Jacko

King of Pop Michael Jackson is dead. From child singing sensation to the pop star who changed skin colour, we take a look at the changing faces of Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson at 15 years old, looking healthy and optimistic. He was unhappy with his looks even at this age and was teased by his father who reportedly nicknamed him "big nose".

At 20 years old, Michael was known for his distinctive afro.

But by the early 1980s Jackson had begun to tone down his African-American look.

He began to wear his hair down, in a more sporty look.

Jackson's Thriller album went gold in 1983. It was around this time that he changed to his "Thriller-era" look. His skin appears to be getting lighter, but in this photo he still has the same nose.

Jackson is pictured here with his sun-glasses, which became a staple accessory over the decades. His nose is more chiseled.

By the end of the 1980s it was more obvious that Jackson was having continual plastic surgery.

In 1988 Jackson shows off a new chin.

By 1993 the change in Jackson's appearance was dramatic: the tip of his nose was even more pointed and his face was white.

Michael Jackson's look became more androgynous.

His jaw, chin, nose, lips and eyes have all been worked on and he is barely recognisable from the child star from of the 1970s.

Looking a little better in 1997, but by this stage Jackson often wore sunglasses and a hat out in public.

He reportedly had permanent eyeliner applied as part of his plastic surgery.

Appearing in court in 2002, Jackson is pictured here unshaven.

He appeared more ebullient after his 2005 trial.

Since 2000 Jackson has been looking more and more unwell.

But when he announced his comeback in London, Jackson appeared healthier than he had done for years.
